Tom and Jerrys Set

Tom and Jerrys Set

My mom's side of the family would always do Tom and Jerrys at Christmas and Mom would whip up a batch at home every now and again. I always wanted to get a custom set for her with the family name on it (and some inside jokes on the mugs). I finally put one together this year, with the help of my friend Caroline.

The bowl and cups are clay, formed around molds (a salad bowl for the bowl, a can of tennis balls for the cup) and given a two-toned glaze. The illustrations are done with these Artistro paint markers.

Here's a little background on Tom and Jerry bowls from PunchDrink.

Here is the recipe for Tom & Jerrys

1 Dozen eggs, separated
2 lbs confectionary sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 jigger of rum

Make a bottle of MIX - (2/3 brandy and 1/3 rum)

*Batter can be halved unless you are having a big party (I usually leave the spices at 1/2 teaspoon)

With an electric mixer beat egg whites separately until soft peaks form, and beat egg yolks until creamy and yellow. Combine the two. Add spices and the sugar. Beat well. In a mug, put a large spoonful of batter. Stir in 1 shot of the MIX, and then fill up with boiling water, stirring all the time. Add a dash of nutmeg. Enjoy.

Refrigerate the batter between parties. Beat the batter before each party to restore the creaminess
